Port Forwarding a Westell A90-750015-07

Verizon sent me this new router and finally fixed my DSL connection issues (it was going almost as slow as dial-up). Now my connection is so fast I can download HD movie trailers in minutes. However, my old port forwarding information is gone and I can't use P2P software like Limewire or Bittorrent, and I can't even use Xbox Live (I use the same network cable for my computer as for my Xbox, I just pop it out of one and into the other when needed).

So what I'm going to do is post a screenshot of what the set up looks like in the settings and maybe you guys could help. Someone told me for bittorent to use a port range of 49152 to 65534. And to make sure it's set to both TCP and UDP. However the other options "Base HostPort" and Direction / Port Direction I'm not sure what to use.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn264/agvkrioni/portforwarding.gif

With the Direction choice you have "in" and "out" and if you choose the latter, two more options open up, "Src" and "Dst".

What I realized is that since you can't have both "in" and "out" for one setting, perhaps I have to open up those ports two times, one for in and one for out, maybe?

Also, and finally, when creating a new port forwarding option you can choose "Host" or "Dynamic". Which I don't know which one to use.

EDIT: Oh yes, Trillian also will not connect anymore either. So the programs I'm looking to fix is Bittorrent (v5.something), LimeWire, Trillian, and if able, XBox Live.

Latter in your case, means out?

Between Host and Dynamic, I would have to say it is Host.

When you select Host, you are given a choice between selecting a computer and entering in an IP?

For the port, enter in the port number that the program.

I know this is not your router, for example http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/A90-220015-04...

For direction, try in.

Yeah I was looking on the guides for the other westel modems but it doesn't seem to be working out. I don't know. Maybe there is some kind of automatic program or software I can find.
This bugs me because the old Westel setup page was easier to use than the Verizon one. I wish I had a choice.

Just some question(s) I have to ask you:

#1 Are you Double NATTED?

You check this, by first checking the default gateway on your computer:

a) On most versions of Windows: Go to Start -> run. Type in cmd and press the ok button. In the new window type in ipconfig /all and press enter.

b) On the Mac, following the steps at http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm

But don't: Click the Configure IPv4 drop down box and select the Manually option.

And go the router's IP, as shown there.

--

c) On another OS other than Windows or Mac, it would help to know the OS name and version.

If you try to go to the default gateway (or on the Mac, router) with your web browser and you do get into the Westell router, than you are most Single NATTED.

#2 If you are Double NATTED or Not, do you have another router?

#3 Does Bittorrent (v5.something), LimeWire, Trillian, and XBox Live - have UPnP?

I am single NATTED. I don't have another router (Verizon sent us this one because the old one was going up).
I know Limewire has UPnP capability.
I am not sure about Trillian but it does allow me to choose a port, however I tried changing that to one I had "set up" as best I could through the Verizon router's port forwarding but no avail.
Bittorrent does have UPnP.
I don't think I can set up port forwarding for Xbox Live without it having a unique IP, based on some quick google searches.

#1 Does this modem have only one LAN port or least two?

If you don't know what I mean, see as need be: My video at Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRU10ZdPU7Q

Title is: LAN to LAN (vs) WAN to LAN.

Part of the Description: To help deconfuse people I setup my network both ways.

#2 Is your modem set up to use PPPoE or DHCP to connect to the net? If you don't know what I mean: After you log-in to the router, show the first screen that you see.

If you desire to: Instead of posting it, PM me and I will look at it. http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?board=Routers;action=imsend;to=tedtrp

hi i have this router and have  the same problem. I'm trying to get xfire to run, it ran fine on my other westell
combo but this one has better wireless signal strength. xfire needs me to use port 25999 so i put that in the start
and end range. and it needs tcp as the protocol so i set that. have no idea about this base port but i'm guessing it's
the port that my wireless pc is on? so then i put it on that port number.and i set direction to IN and port direction to DESTINATION, but xfire still wont connect. so i think maybe
i need an outgoing one, so i add another port setting to my xfire entry, but this one has a direction going OUT, and port direction going to SOURCE.
No Luck. can someone help please?
